Mid Summer Update

The summer is 1/2 over and though I rode to California and back, I still don’t have enough miles logged for Missouri. I need to start blistering the roads around here…of course, that is part of the problem, isn’t it? The roads have been blistering with the excessive heat this year and man oh man, the pavement is HOT! Don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, and HYDRATE even more when you ride. I learned another great hot weather tip while returning from California and watching some of my companions ride. It sounds and looks rather counter intuitive but if you will soak down a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt with cool water at a gas stop and then put a mesh jacket over the top, it will keep you cool by allowing the air to flow through the jacket, over the damp shirt and the evaporation works wonders. I must say that though I was riding through heat of 100 degrees or more, I kept cool for about 60 miles or so. Then I would just stop at another rest stop; gas station or residential sprinkler (shhhhh, don’t tell on me) and rewet my shirt. The trip out to the 25th International WOW Ride-In in San Jose, California was amazing and I had a great time. I learned a lot (took the MSF Dirt Bike School;) ran into and rode with old friends (Hi June Reeves from Georgia;) and met some new ones Like Jo Jo from Arizona and those crazy Louisiana gals (I won’t mention your names…Linda LeDoux!) If you have never attended a Ride-In, maybe you can put next years on your calendar now. Here are the dates: July 10, 11, and 12, 2012. It is going to be in Greenville, South Carolina and I hear riding around the mountains will be fantastic. What’s that you say? You can’t make it next year? Well, what about 2013 when it will be in Billings, Montana? We had approximately 25 people attend the Ride-In from Missouri this year. I think we may have had the most in attendance and that is counting the host state of California! I would love to see double that next year and triple that the year after so start talking it up!

As for this year we still have a lot of riding to do. We have 2 more Rides to Lunch slated for August and September. There is the Presidents Croozapalooza in September and the Fall Ride in October for the State. Keep watching this website’s calendar for updates and event postings.
